Carmell Emory, Writing Consultant

Carmell Emory

I first started writing when I was a little girl, sitting at my dusty, out of tune, piano. The songs I wrote were typical for a seven year old. Frogs, kittens, bikes, and exploring were my inspiration, and my plucking fingers allowed me to add musical movement to my imaginary thoughts. Now as an adult, student, and writing consultant, I understand how the writing I did as a little girl has helped and encouraged me to express my innermost thoughts and ideas. Sometimes it's hard for people to express themselves to others, and that is where I come in to help.

As a tutor for the Everett Community College Writing Center for two years, while completing my Associates in Business Degree, I was able to help students focus or expand their ideas and understand the writing process. It is a passion of mine to support students and watch them grow into stronger writers. When the light bulb finally turns on above their head is when I feel that I have made a difference in their lives.

My favorite stage in the writing process is the very beginning. I love to open a blank page on the computer and type out all my thoughts. No one can correct or judge these thoughts because I hold the power over the cursor and keys. It is at this stage that I am able to work out my ideas and find what I am trying to say.
