BOTHELL, Wash. - IMAGINE, the Education Program at the University of Washington Bothell's new summer youth program, began today with an integrated math, science and language arts curriculum focusing on environmental stewardship.
The brainchild of UW Bothell Education Professors Cherry Banks, Karen Gourd and Robin Rider, IMAGINE centers around the UW Bothell wetlands, providing a meaningful academic and outdoor experience for local middle and high school-aged students. The program also serves as a unique learning experience for UW Bothell Education students.
The three week program runs through Friday, August 8; with sessions held Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and Fridays 9:00 a.m.-noon.
Session one, "Extinction or Preservation," runs July 21-25 and focuses primarily on amphibians and the critical role they play in the wetlands
Session two, "Explorations in Nature," runs July 28-August 1 and centers around the power of digital imagery to observe, understand, and ultimately protect nature.
Session three, "Environmental Stewardship," runs August 4-8 and teaches practical backyard conservation practices such as composting, mulching, and GIS mapping, to inspire students to adopt environmental stewardship practices and to share them with others.
