How to Find Reserve Books

Reserve books are listed in the
UW Libraries Catalog under Course Reserves and may be searched by course or professor

Loan Periods-Reserves

Short loan periods are assigned to optimize access to materials.  Most reserve books are on 72-hour reserve.  Shorter loan periods will be assigned to materials in high demand.  Other reserve loan periods include 2, 4, 24, and 168 hours.  Books marked as "library use only" may not leave the library.

Each reserve book has a date due slip attached to the inside back cover indicating the loan period.

Loan periods are fixed by the computer and cannot be changed.

Media reserve materials (videotapes, DVDs, cassettes, etc.) are available in the Campus Media Center and are generally library use only.

Fines-Reserves

Reserve fines are set a a high level to motivate borrowers to return material on time for use by other patrons.  Fines apply all days and hours, even if the Campus Library is closed.

All reserve materials are due at a specific hour. Late fines will accrue for each hour items are overdue.

Patrons are responsible for knowing the date and time items are due back. The date due slip attached to the inside back cover of each item is stamped with this information.

Overdue fines for reserve materials accrue at $2.50 for the first hour, then 50-cents per hour thereafter up to a $30 maximum for each item. After the $30 maximum charge, a replacement cost is added.  Once an item is 57 hours overdue, a bill for replacement is produced during the next scheduled printing of bills.

Unpaid library fines may result in the blocking of registration, graduation, transcripts and other sanctions.   For payment of fines, please click here.  If you feel you received a fine in error, please contact the Information Commons Desk.

Returning Reserve Books

When the Campus Library is open, all reserve books must be returned to the Information Commons Desk.   Reserve fines may accrue if materials are placed in the after-hours book drop when the library is open.

When the library is closed, reserve books may be placed in the after-hours book drops located directly outside the Campus Library or on Campus Way NE near the Library Annex.

Do not return UWB/CCC reserve books to another library on the Seattle or Tacoma Campus.  Reserve materials returned to these campuses are mailed back via campus mail and are not checked in until they reach the UWB/CCC Campus Library.  Large reserve fines will be charged for overdue materials.

If you are using reserve materials in-house, you may return them to the Reserve Returns Box located in the open reserves area.  This box is for returning reserve materials which have not been checked out.

Please do not re-shelve reserve materials.

Renewals-Reserves

Reserve books may not be renewed.

If a reserve book is needed longer, you must bring it to the Information Commons Desk.  Library staff will check in and check the book back out.

Reserve books are typically in high demand and may not be held or reserved for an individual student.

If a reserve book is constantly checked out when you need it, please search the UW Libraries Catalog for additional circulating copies or contact the Information Commons Desk for assistance.

Responsibilities of Patrons

Patrons checking out materials are responsible for the following:
