Research Alerts --also known as email alerts, notification services, or SDIs-- provide citations and table of contents of recently published articles, books, and research that are sent to you via email on the topics of your choice. Research alerts are a great way to stay up-to-date on current publications in your field by having citations automatically delivered to your email inbox. The instructions for setting up automatic research alerts vary by vendor, although the basic processes are similar. Many databases are beginning to add a RSS feature, which delivers content to portable computing devices as an XML file, these are called RSS feeds.
	STEP 1: Browse the list of subjects below and identify databases that are relevant to your interests.
	STEP 2: Review the description of service and general instructions for the database(s) you are interested in. The instructions for setting up a notification service vary by vendor. Follow the link and instructions to set up your notification service.
	STEP 3: Contact your librarian if you have any questions about these services. We are also available to help you identify relevant search terms.

	ProQuest Databases	Set up your ProQuest database alert. Enter in your desired search term(s), then click the "Set Up Alert" link at the top of your search results list. Then fill out the "Set up your Search Alert" form.
Business
	EconLit	Set up your EconLit/CSA database alert. Save your searches as alerts. Click the Alerts link located in the top right corner of the screen. Click the "New user" link.
	Factiva	Set up RSS Feed alerts with Factiva.
Computing and Information Technology
	Compendex	Connect to Engineering Village 2 database alerts. Save searches and set up email alerts. Click Search History and then click Save Search. You can also check the Email Alert box to save as an alert.
	INSPEC	Connect to Engineering Village 2 database alerts. Save searches and set up email alerts. Click Search History and then click Save Search. You can also check the Email Alert box to save as an alert.
	IEEE Xplore	Connect to IEEE database alerts. Receive tables of contents of journals whenever a new issue is published. Click on "Alerts" on the opening page.

	Current Contents	Set up your Current Contents/Silverplatter database alert. Save subject-type searches or table of contents searches.
	ProQuest Databases	Set up your ProQuest database alert. Enter in your desired search term(s), then click the "Set Up Alert" link at the top of your search results list. Then fill out the "Set up your Search Alert" form.
	ScienceDirect	Set up your ScienceDirect database alert. Click the MyAlerts button to save subject-type searches or table of contents searches.

	PubMed	My NCBI PubMed's alert service provides daily or weekly alerts on current contents of PubMed. Create an account to begin service. Also try the free PubCrawler database alerts service!
