Off-Campus Access Help/More Info
1. YOUR UW NetID

A UW NetID is needed to gain access to:
- MyUW
- UWB computer labs
- UW Restricted library resources from off-campus
- Wireless in the Library and UW Bothell buildings
- ERes - electronic reserves course readings
- Requesting books and articles from UW Seattle and beyond

- If you already have a UW NetID but you've forgotten your password click here
- Click here for more informaton about the UWB drop-in Computer Lab and UWB Student Computer Accounts
2. CONNECT TO UW Restricted LIBRARY DATABASES FROM HOME
Off-Campus Proxy Service
The off-campus proxy service allows users to access UW restricted resources, such as library databases, from off-campus. This service is not required for off-campus access to the UW Libraries Catalog, renewing or requesting books, or ERes electronic reserves. Only access to those resources with the "UW restricted" icon are affected.
The proxy service uses your UW NetID for authentication (your myUW username/password) and does not require you to configure your web browser. To start a session with the proxy service, visit http://offcampus.lib.washington.edu/, or click on the "Off-Campus Access" link which appears in the upper right corner of many pages on our website (see also UW Libraries and Health Sciences/Healthlinks). This proxy service requires that you always start a session to gain access to restricted resources, so you might want to bookmark the URL. For more information about this service please visit the Off-Campus Proxy FAQ.
Tools for making the proxy easier to use -- a proxy bookmarklet and form for "un-proxying" a URL -- are available at http://www.lib.washington.edu/help/proxyTools.html.
UWICK (available to current UWB students, staff and faculty only)
You can purchase UWICK (UW Internet Connectivity Kit) at the UWB/CCC Bookstore. UWICK includes Adobe Acrobat Reader, Netscape Communicator, and Internet Explorer. UWICK will allow you to access your UW email account and search the UW Libraries databases from home. To use UWICK you must have a UW NetID.
- If you encounter any problems installing UWICK on your home computer contact Computing & Communications in Seattle at help@cac.washington.edu or 206-543-5970.
- You can also download the UWICK "Starter Set" for free. The Starter Set is the subset of software within the UWICK kit that provides UW dial-in configuration - it does not include a web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) or Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Click here for information about phone numbers for UW Dial-in modem access.
- To find books and articles browse our databases by subject or A-Z. If a research guide has been created for your class click here
3. ACTIVATE YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT AND EMAIL NOTIFICATION
- Activating your library account
Your library account number is the barcode on the back of your I.D. card. Before you can check out books, videos or laptop computers (or use many other Library services) you need to activate your account (this is often referred to as "linking your barcode"). You can do this at the Information Commons Desk in the Campus Library, or on the Web using this form.
- Please note: If you link your barcode online (rather than in person at the Campus Library Information Commons Desk) it will take approximately two days for your request to be processed.
- Setting up email notification
Your @u.washington.edu email address will be entered automatically into your library account. If you would prefer to receive e-mail notifications at another e-mail address you can set your UW email to forward to your preferred account. You can do this from your MyUW account: http://myuw.washington.edu/
You will be notified by email when a book you've requested via the UW Libraries Catalog is available for pickup, or if a book you've checked out is overdue or has been recalled for another patron. You will not receive printed overdue notices in the mail - only via e-mail
4. ACCESS ELECTRONIC RESERVES (ERes) http://www.uwb.edu/library/aboutereserves.html - these are materials are restricted by UW NetID
