All transactions relating to General Circulation Services, Reserves and Document Delivery Service are administered at the Information Desk.


General Circulation Services


Borrowing Services

University of Washington and Cascadia Community College students, faculty, staff as well as authorized off-campus borrowers may borrow materials from the UWB/CCC Campus Library. New cards must be activated at the Information Desk before use. Once activated, you may access your library account information online (note: you must have a NetID in your library record before you will be able to access your library account online).

Once activated, your library card may be used at any of the University of Washington Libraries. You are responsible for:

To receive prompt notification about books you have requested and/or courtesy notices for items coming due, you may register for email notification.

Returning Books

When the library is open, books may be returned to the book drop at the Information Desk. The library also has an after-hours book return located just to the right of the library entrance. A drive-up book-drop is located on Lower Campus Drive at the entrance to the Library Loading Dock (to the left of the Library Annex/Student Development Building).


Books (other than Reserve) may also be returned at the Seattle or Tacoma campuses. Items will be checked in at those locations and returned to the Campus Library. Reserve books must be returned to the library from which they were borrowed.


Renewals

UW Libraries materials checked out for more than 14 days are allowed an unlimited number of renewals. Items that circulate for 14 days or less may be renewed three times.

The following exceptions apply:

Books may be renewed online by going to Your Library Account. Phone renewals are accepted at 425-352-5340


Overdue Books and Fines

Fines are assessed to encourage prompt return of materials. Fines apply all days and all hours, even if library is closed. Patrons may pay fines online, or  ask for assistance at the Information Desk.

If you believe the library has made an error and you wish to contest the fine, please ask for an Appeal Form at the Information Desk.


For Standard Loans (3 days or more):


There is a four-day grace period. On the fifth day the charge will be $2.50.

1-20 days overdue---------$.50/day

21 days overdue-----------$20 billing charge, non-refundable, plus a replacement cost ($75-$125) Reserve Materials and loans of less than 3 days:

$2.50 after 1st hour overdue, then $.50/hour to 430 maximum

57+ hours overdue--------$30 billing charge, non-refundable, plus a replacement cost ($75-$125) Reserve Materials must be returned to the Reserve Desk where checked out.


Holds and Searches

If a UW Libraries book is checked out, make sure to check the Summit Catalog--a consortium of over 30 libraries in Oregon and Washington. Books requested from Summit will arrive at the Campus Library in 3-5 business days. You can access Summit through the Online Catalog or go directly to the Summit

Holds may be placed for items at the Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma campuses. Patrons are notified by mail when the book becomes available. Users who have filled out an E-Mail Notification form will receive availability notices on their email account. 

If material cannot be located and is not checked out to another patron, you may request a search at the Information Desk.

Study Rooms

There are several  group study rooms available for use by UW and Cascadia students, staff and faculty. Groups who wish to use these rooms may make reservations at the Information Desk or call 425-352-5340. Certain rules apply to use of rooms

  1. Only groups may reserve study rooms.
  2. Two or more people constitute a group.
  3. UWB/CCC identification must be shown in order to reserve a room 
  4. Patrons may reserve rooms for up to two hours.
  5. Single individuals may use the group study rooms, but may not reserve them.

Reading Room

The Reading Room is located on the 3rd floor of the Campus Library.  This is a quiet area intended for individual study only.
