Field Instructors

Field Instructors are former educators who act as liaisons between the Interns, Master Teachers, and the Education Program faculty. They help Interns understand and meet all University expectations so that the student teaching experience is successful as well as satisfying.

William Cuthbert

Bill Cuthbert has been a Field Instructor for the UW Bothell since 1998. Prior to that he wasthe Principal of Coe Elementary in Seattle and taught inelementary schools in the Seattle School District for 30 years. Bill has been an active member and leader in the Washington Science Teachers' Association and in the Seattle Public Schools.
Karen Brusseau

Karen Brusseau brings 13 years of teaching experience in regular and special education elementary classrooms to the UW Bothell Teacher Certification Program. She has led district committees and teacher inservice classes and served as mentor teacher for both 1st year teachers and student teachers, providing coaching, guidance and suggestions to help them improve their skills. Karen has been a Field Instructor for the UW Bothell since 2001.
Cheryle Nesbit

Cheryle Nesbit has over 31 years of teaching experience at the elementary level in both the Seattle and Northshore School districts. She has been a teacher leader in her schools coordinating Science, Math and Writing Fairs, developing new programs and conducting training sessions for faculty and staff. Cheryle has been a Field Instructor for UW Bothell since 2001.
Jan Rettig

Jan Rettig joined the UW Bothell Teacher Certification Program as a Field Instructor in 2003. She came to us after spending 26 years as a teacher and administrator in elementary and junior high schools. During that time she worked as a Vice-principal, Administrator of an Early Childhood Center, and Elementary School Principal. Jan's experience in education covers all aspects of schooling from the day-to-day challenges of the classroom to supervising the operations of the school.
Louise Hatala

Louise Hatala has extensive experience as an educator and administrator in grades K-12. During her 37 yearsin education she was not only a teacher, but also a Department Head, Coordinator of School Reform Design, Assistant Director of Intructional Programs, and AssistantPrincipal. She has been active in numerous professional organizations, written and presented to her fellow teachers and continued her own education well into her career. Louise has been a UW Bothell Field Instructor since 2000.

Professional Educators Advisory Board 2007-2008

The University of Washington Bothell Education Program's Professional Educators Advisory Board (PEAB) meets regularly to review all of the activities of the Teacher Certification and Professional Certification Programs. The Board provides recommendations for program changes and submits an annual report of its activities to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Members are appointed to the board from the Washington Education Association, Washington Federation of Independent Schools, Association of Washington School Principals, and the Washington Association of School Administrators.
