Information Technologies is enhancing UWB File Services which will provide faculty and staff one gigabyte (1 GB) of server space for their personal folder (double the previous limit). Another benefit of this upgrade will be the added convenience of accessing personal folders from off-campus, anywhere in the world.
All your files will be backed up and copied to the new file server. Information Technologies will ensure that none of your files are lost during this transition.
You will be notified by Information Technologies when your Mercury folder will be converted to the new UWB File Services. Your work will be affected in two ways:
The first time you log back into your computer after Information Technologies migrates your folders, three shortcuts will automatically be generated linking to the most frequently used resources.
Departments contains the link to your departmental share. It also contains links to other departments and the Temporary folder. Please note that your personal folder will no longer be located here (see below).
Faculty-Staff has links to individual class shares under Classes, as well as multi-department shared resources such as GFO and GSO.
Finally, a link to your personal folder (bearing your UWB username, which is typically first initial + last name) is created. This contains all the data you had on your personal Mercury folder, the only difference being the new location (under Home in UWB File Services) and the amount of space you get (twice as much).
