Admissions

MBA: How to Apply

The MBA Program Office uses a self-managed online application process. As described below, a complete application and all supporting materials must be submitted either online, mailed or transferred electronically by the application deadline before the University of Washington Bothell will consider a candidate for admission.

To request an MBA Program Brochure, e-mail uwbinfo@uwb.edu, or call (425) 352-3277 or 1-800-736-6650.

** Due to the recent approval of the Leadership MBA for Bellevue in mid-October, the official application will not be available until later in November.  However, the application requirements and deadlines for admissions are the same for both the Technology MBA and the Leadership MBA so you may proceed with preparing your application materials .  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this exciting transition to two MBA Programs offered by the University of Washington Bothell.

Application Materials

All applicants to the MBA Program must submit the items listed below to be considered for admission. It is to your advantage to request the online letters of recommendation and have the official transcripts mailed to the UW Bothell MBA Program in advance so there is plenty of time for them to arrive by the application deadlines.

Completed Application Form

All applicants must complete the online application. A $50.00 application fee applies. In the online application, select "Business Administration - MBA - Bothell Campus" for applying to the TMBA Program at the University of Washington Bothell.  A second online application for the Leadership MBA Program will be available in late November.

Transcripts

Provide two official transcripts from each post-secondary school you have attended.  Applicants with a UW undergraduate and/or graduate degree do not need to provide official transcripts since we can access them.

Applicants with an international degree submit their official transcript and diploma to the MBA Program office - the official materials are returned after the evaluation is complete.

Official transcripts and international diplomas may be mailed or brought to:

Letters of Recommendation

Provide two letters or recommendation from individuals who know your professional achievements well.

The Letter of Recommendation is available through the online application where you will need to note the name of the Recommenders (2), company, title, phone number and email address. The referral may be sent to your Recommenders before you submit the completed application electronically.  An email goes to each Recommender and asks them to complete the Letter of Recommendation.  Once the Recommender completes and submits it electronically, you are notified by email. You may want to inform the Recommender that the email with the recommendation link is on the way prior to sending it.

Application Essays

All applicants must submit two essays online in plain text, or upload Word or PDF. Essays are to address the following topics:

1. Discuss the professional skills you have developed to date. How will you expand upon your abilities during the MBA Program? What are your short-term and long-term career goals, and how will a MBA degree assist you in achieving them? (maximum 750 words).

2. Write an essay on one of the following topics (maximum 500 words):

In your essay, describe the problem the organization faced and the program or activity designed to address it. Describe your role in the design and implementation of the program or activity. What was the successful or unsuccessful outcome? Were there any unanticipated events during the implementation? If so, what did you do in response? Please also include your name on each page of your essays.

Optional Essay: Please include any other information that you believe would be helpful to the Admissions Committee in considering your application.

Resume and Work Summary Form

Your resume, submitted online in plain text, or uploaded in Word or PDF, should include the following:

Please also complete the online Summary of Management and Professional Work Experience (PDF) that includes the following categories, expressed in years and rounded to the nearest half year:

Note: The online Summary of Management and Professional Work Experience PDF is in Acrobat 8.0.  Applicants may use Acrobat 7.0 or 8.0 to save it into the application materials.  Acrobat 7.0 is a free download available through the online application process.

Official GMAT Scores

All applicants must complete the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Review the GMAT Information section of the Prerequisites page for information about scheduling the test.

Official scores will be sent directly to UW Bothell when you select the UW Bothell MBA Evening Program. The official GMAT scores must come to the MBA Program at the UW Bothell for final admissions to occur.

Your unofficial GMAT scores, provided to you immediately after completing the test, may be included online with your application materials. However, the scores will not include your writing score which comes with your official results in about three weeks. You may update your scores online at anytime during the application process. (Note: If you take the exam near the application deadline, you must provide the unofficial verbal and quantitative scores online plus fax (425-352-5277; attn-UWB MBA Admissions) or scan and email (uwbmba@uwb.edu) as soon as possible to the MBA Program Office for you to have a complete application file and be considered for admissions.)

Scores are effective for five years. If you took the GMAT more than five years ago, you must retake the exam. If you have taken the GMAT more than once, we will consider only your highest score. The University of Washington will keep these scores on file for one year.

As a service to prospective MBA students to help prepare for the GMAT, the Princeton Review is now offering classes on Tuesdays, January 27 -March 10,  7:00 - 10:00 pm, (room tba in early December) on the University of Washington Bothell campus. The cost is $1,049 through November 30 and it goes up to $1,249 on December 1.  Although not affiliated with the University of Washington Bothell, we are pleased to welcome their classic GMAT test preparation support.

International Applicants

Official English Proficiency Scores (TOEFL, MLT or IELTS)

International applicants must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Michigan Language Test (MLT) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

International applicants taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) must submit a photocopy of the score report in their application packet. Official scores will be sent to the University of Washington when you provide Educational Testing Service (ETS) with our school code: 4854.  Scores usually take about three weeks to transfer to the University of Washington.

Review the English Language Proficiency Exam for the TOEFL, MLT or IELTS information section of the Prerequisites page for information about scheduling the test. TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date.

The Michigan Language Test (MLT) is an alternative exam to the TOEFL. The UW Seattle Office of Educational Assessment offers the exam which is usually scored in about one to two weeks.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is another alternative to the TOEFL.  Scores may be sent to the MBA Program, University of Washington Bothell.

Official Transcripts

International applicants are required to submit only one official transcript and diploma, which is verified and evaluated for a grade point average (GPA) by the University of Washington Graduate School. International applicants who are working in the area usually bring their transcripts to the MBA Program Office, UW1-381.

Additional Information

International applicants are required to submit additional information. After submitting your application and paying your fee online, there will be a check list of additional requirements including the University of Washington Statement of Financial Ability form.  Completed materials are sent to the Graduate School except for the original transcript and diploma which are mailed or brought to the MBA Program office.

Application Interview

Interview appointments may be required.  If so, appointments are initiated by the MBA Admissions Committee after an initial screening of applicants within approximately three weeks after the deadline.

Acknowledgement and Decisions

Through the online application process, you will be able to confirm receipt of your MBA application materials online by accessing the Graduate School application process. All required materials must be received before your application will be evaluated. A decision letter will be mailed within six to eight weeks after the closing date by which you are applying.

On occasion, applicants who are admissible may be notified that they have been placed on a waiting list when we have reached our limit of admitted students. If an admitted student does not matriculate, then a space may be made available for someone on the waiting list.
