National Survey of Student Engagement

NSSE

The University of Washington Bothell participated in the National Study of Student Engagement in the 2006-07 academic year as part of our multi-pronged self-assessment processes  NSSE will prove helpful to us as a young institution committed to fostering "passion for life-long learning, intellectual engagement, and respectful appreciation for others' perspectives." The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is an annual survey designed to provide information on the extent to which students engage in effective educational practices that are linked to learning, personal growth, and other important student outcomes, such as persistence in college, satisfaction and graduation.   The results indicate that UWB succeeds in engaging its students, through active and collaborative learning, in subjects that are widely viewed as academically challenging.     The 2006-07 survey was given to a sample of our first-ever Frosh class, as well as to University of Washington, Bothell seniors.  The results have already stimulated conversations about what we do best and how we can improve our already strong performance to achieve our mission and core values.  NSSE, like many other gauges of college performance, is best structured for the residential college where student life may be integrated into the academic mission.
