How to Apply: Bachelor of Arts

Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is selective.  To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Core Subject Requirements for Admission to the University
AreaIf completed in H.S.If made up in College
Foreign Language2 years of the same language10 college credits of a single language or through 102 with passing grade
English4 years5 credits of English comp with a grade of 2.0 or higher
Mathematics3 years - completion of Intermediate AlgebraCompletion of Intermediate Algebra with a grade of 2.0 or higher
Social Science3 years15 credits
Science2 years10 credits
Fine, Visual or Performing Arts1/2 year2 credits

The 70 major credits must be completed in MATRICULATED STATUS.

IAS conducts a holistic review of all applications.  A 2.5 minimum cumulative gpa is expected. Special circumstances may allow for admission of students with lower cumulative gpa's (between 2.0 and 2.4).

In addition to the Foreign Language, English Composition, QSR and Intermediate Algebra requirements, students must complete the following additional program admission requirements:

For students applying with 80 or more credits

English Composition: 5 credits
Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (QSR): 5 credits
Visual, Literary and Performing Arts (Humanities): 15 credits
Individual and Societies (Social Sciences): 15 credits
Natural World (Natural Sciences): 15 credits

For students applying with 45-79 credits

English Composition : 5 credits
Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (QSR): 5 credits
Visual, Literary and Performing Arts (Humanities): 10 credits
Individuals and Societies (Social Sciences): 10 credits
Natural World (Natural Sciences): 10 credits

(College courses used to fulfill the core subject requirements can also be used to fulfill program admission requirements.)

Admissions Criteria

In addition to specific admission requirements, the IAS Undergraduate Admission Committee looks for coursework relevant to the IAS curriculum (see the course catalogue), and a well-written and thoughtful goal statement that addresses:

Grades are considered, with more weight given to grades in relevant coursework and grades in later coursework. Applicants who are deficient in Intermediate Algebra and/or Foreign Language will not be considered until the deficiency has been completed.
